Keep calm in the classroom

2 Resources
Two resources to help you and your children keep calm in the classroom! Suitable for Ks1/Ks2. One is a visual aid for display in the classroom, the other a visual aid for teachers. When children start to feel dysregulated they often don’t remember the tools they could use to help them feel calmer. The quicker they can locate these tools the better. Visual aid is dyslexia friendly font and colours with pictures to aid memory or instruction for those who struggle to read. I used things like these all the time as a classroom teacher and they are all tried and tested with good results. Note : chidren cannot self regulate well at these ages, they need to learn these skills over a long period of time. If you have a supportive classroom where you actively teach these skills from a young age, you’re onto a winner

Zones of Regulation- Calm toolkit

Zones of Regulation Calm toolkit Zones of Regulation is a great tool created by Leah Kuypers. I have used this as a long standing tool to help children learn about their emotions and how to regulate them. Often it is tricky to think of things to help the children in these zones/ time to create the resource yourself… Here is the solution! A one page, dyslexic friendly and visual toolkit for each zone. I would suggest pairing it with a ZOR chart in the classroom for children to show you what zone they are in. I will be creating this as a resource soon! This can be used as an on desk resource, in a calm corner or on the wall for all to see. In order for this to work, you do need to be flexible with what children need. They know themselves best! I also think you can use a talk box and adult interchangeably dependent on the adults in your class.

This set of 4 printable posters is perfect for at home or in the classroom. It gives children clear techniques to help them feel calm. Breathing is an excellent tool to calm children who are experiencing big feelings be that anger, sadness or worry. By offering children different breathing techniques it can help them self regulate and feel calmer. This works really well alongside the Zones of Regulation and other emotional regulation tools.
